I totally get it. I too have the natural tendency to get stuck in my head. So much that I got sick with 16 due to pressure and a lot going on. I didn't have the tools back then to manage my stress levels and 'come back in'. It took me many years of searching, traveling and studying to shift this completely.
I then practised lots of Yoga, meditation and holistic healing modalities. When my circumstances changed however, and I became a mum and busy business owner - I found it harder and harder to find the time to do all of the above!
Needless to say: I had to equip myself with fast and effective tools that I could use on the run and whilst doing other things (ie whilst doing the dishes, talking to people or during sessions to hold my space).
